A “meet-cute” set in Boston, Massachusetts on St. Patrick’s Day 2010.
Katherine Rose Gagen (Kat) is a 27-year-old glass artist and self-published author. She likes to tell people that when she was in school she “majored in sarcasm and art.” She has had a rabbit, a rescued Harlequin named Christmas, for almost two years. When she’s not enjoying her rabbit’s company or creating her latest masterpiece, she enjoys running and painting.
Tanner Joseph George is a 28-year-old website designer and wood carver. He knew of Kat when they attended Suffolk University because her art was that good. He has had a rabbit, a rescued Holland Lop named Lucky, for two years. When he’s not spending time with his little fur ball, he enjoys rowing and painting.
Music helps set the mood while I write. That is why the inspiration playlists play such a vital role in my writing process. These are the songs that inspired the St. Patrick’s Day short story Luck of the Irish:
When Irish Eyes are Smiling - by Celtic Angels
I had to use a few Irish songs for a St. Patrick’s Day short story. I picked this to kick off the playlist.
Danny Boy - by Hayley Westenra
I don’t think any St. Patrick’s Day playlist would be complete without this song.
Brighter Than the Sun - by Colbie Caillat
This is one of Kat’s theme songs.
Lucky One - by Amy Grant
This is Kat’s sister’s theme song. Kat’s yearly St. Patrick’s Day tradition is to meet up with her brother and sister.
Love And Luck - by Jimmy Buffett
This is Kat’s brother’s theme song.
I Always Get Lucky With You - by Kenny Chesney
This is Tanner’s brother's theme song.
I'm Just a Lucky So and So - by Diana Krall
This is Tanner’s sister’s theme song.
Living In the Moment - by Jason Mraz
This is one of Tanner’s theme songs.
Scarborough Fair - by Hayley Westenra
Technically an English song, this was on Hayley’s Celtic Treasures album. She has a beautiful voice and I wanted to include another song from the album.
Irish Heartbeat - by Celtic Angels
I wanted another song from Celtic Angels to finish off the St. Patrick’s Day playlist. (Yes, there are still four more songs on the playlist, but it was the last song I picked for it.)
Fallin’ for You - by Colbie Caillat
This is Kat’s other theme song. It represents, for her, the relationship that develops after St. Patrick’s Day.
I’m Yours - by Jason Mraz
This is Tanner’s other theme song. It represents, for him, the relationship that develops after St. Patrick’s Day.
Get Lucky - by Daft Punk feat. Pharrell Williams
In addition to songs that felt like traditional St. Patrick’s Day songs, I also wanted songs with luck in the title. That is why the main characters’ siblings have theme songs with luck in the title. This song fits with Kat’s sarcasm.
Lucky - by Jason Mraz feat. Colbie Caillat
This beautiful song is the song that Kat and Tanner dance to at their wedding.
