An engagement set in multiple locations in September 1997.
Murphy Lynn Montgomery is a 21-year-old college senior. She is in her final year at Indiana University where she is studying interior design. She has been dating her boyfriend for a little over a year. When she is not studying or visiting him, she is either hitting the gym with one of her roommates or singing with a friend’s band.
Eric Jackson Donnelly is a 28-year-old private detective. He gave up his marine biology career, and living in Hawaii, when he moved home to start dating Murphy. He had been close friends with her brother until he started dating her. And when he told her brother that he wanted to marry Murphy, her brother insisted she deserved an adventure.
Music helps set the mood while I write. That is why the inspiration playlists play such a vital role in my writing process. I have no idea what I might’ve listened to when I wrote the first version back in high school. These are the songs that inspired the final version of A Time for Love:
Some Day My Prince Will Come/One Song - by En Vogue
I went through a lot of my older music for this playlist since the story is set back in 1997.
Help! - by The Beatles
Without giving the whole story away, I can say that this is one Eric’s theme songs.
Zero to Hero - by Lillias White, Tawatha Agee, Cheryl Freeman, LaChanze, Roz Ryan, and Vaneese Thomas
This is Eric’s second theme song.
Help Me Out - by Maroon 5 & Julia Michaels
This is Eric’s third (and final) theme song.
Gotta Find You - by Joe Jonas
This is one of Murphy’s theme songs.
A Star Is Born - by Lillias White, Cheryl Freeman, LaChanze, Roz Ryan, and Vaneese Thomas
This is Murphy’s second theme song.
Find You - by Nick Jonas
This is Murphy’s third (and final) theme song.
Go the Distance - by Michael Bolton
Disney’s Hercules came out in 1997. (That makes me feel old.) That is one of the reasons I picked this song and had two other songs from the soundtrack on this inspiration playlist.
When You Wish Upon A Star - by Billy Joel
This is one of the best versions of the song. (I think my absolute favorite is in French, in case you were wondering.)
A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes - by Michael Bolton
This is the third song I used from Simply Mad About the Mouse.
I Hate You Then I Love You - by Céline Dion & Luciano Pavarotti
I picked this because of the title.
This Is The Time - by Billy Joel
This is another song I picked because of the title. It represents that big moment at the end of the story.
Can You Feel The Love Tonight? - by Elton John
This song represents a question Eric has been trying to ask Murphy.
The One Thing - by Michael Bolton
This was Murphy and Eric’s first dance at their wedding.
