Together Again

Hadley Bright hasn’t told anyone the truth about what happened to her. It is a secret she never plans to share. Why should she? She is quite certain she has moved past it.

But a fight with her husband Peter during their honeymoon stirs up old memories. Her insecurities get the best of her. And before she can stop it, her life begins to spiral out of control as her marriage unravels.

Unwilling to reveal her secret, Hadley is about to lose everything that matters to her. Can she get the help she needs before it is too late? Will she walk away from her dreams? Or is there anyway she can possibly find herself Together Again?

I’ve often said that music inspires me. In addition to the songs listed below, I listened to a lot of Britney Spears, Demi Lovato, and the Tangled and Frozen soundtracks, while writing Together Again.

SPOILER ALERT: If you haven’t read the book and don’t want to know how it ends, read at your own caution.

Together Again - by Martina McBride

This song is the title of the story. It is also the song Hadley and Peter danced to at their wedding reception.

Incredible - by Clique Girlz

This song was on the AT&T Playlist for the 2008 Summer Olympics. It is on the playlist to represent Hadley’s competition in Beijing.

Now Is The Start - by A Fine Frenzy

I liked this song the moment I heard it. I put it on the list to represent the start of the story. Get it?

To Remember - by Josh Kelley

This song was also on the AT&T Playlist for the 2008 Summer Olympics. It represents Hadley’s compeition and the proposal that happens the next day.

Oops!…I Did It Again - by Lea Michele

This song represents the beginning of Hadley’s life falling apart.

Everybody Talks - by Neon Trees

Hadley hates people talking about her. This song represents the fall out after Garrett’s admission.

Someone to Watch Over Me - by Rod Stewart

This song was the song that Journey and her husband danced to at their wedding.

I Lost It - by Kenny Chesney

This song represents Peter’s feelings about their separation.

Wide Awake - by Katy Perry

The line “falling from cloud nine” is the reason why I included this song in the playlist. That’s how it was for Hadley. She was on cloud nine following Beijing and her wedding. And then everything fell apart.

Dark Side - by Kelly Clarkson

This song represents Hadley revealing the entire story of what happened to her, to her family first and then to Peter. Because the truth is that they love her, dark side and all. (Peter actually says that.)

Not Over You - by Gavin DeGraw

I picked this song to represent Peter’s willingness to try therapy first, instead of throwing their marriage away.

Lights - by Ellie Goulding

Every time I heard this song on the radio, I’d get another idea of where this story was going. I wasn’t sure how it would fit in on the playlist. But I knew I had to include it. And then, I decided it was a song she used during the Bright Family Challenge.

Dog Days Are Over - by Suzanna Choffel

The song is meant to represent the idea that Hadley’s darkest days are over. She is getting better.

Stuck Like Glue - by Sugarland

And this song represents the fact that Hadley and Peter’s marriage managed to survive.

Survival - by Muse

This song was the official song of the 2012 Olympics.

Here I Am - by Carly Patterson

If you don’t know who Carly Patterson is, she is the first American gymnast to win the All-Around final in a fully-attended Olympics. This song is about being on the edge of seeing dreams come true. I love this song and it was a perfect addition to the playlist, representing Hadley knowing she’s on the edge of greatness.

Star-Spangled Banner - by Jennifer Hudson

And then, finally, Hadley was no longer just on the edge of greatness. She had that gold medal that she nearly lost everything to get.

Home - by Phillip Phillips

This song was the unofficial theme song for the women’s gymnastics team in London. And it felt like the perfect song to finish the playlist.
