Make Me a Match
Laura Buck is happy with her life. She has a job she loves, a house, two dogs, and two guinea pigs.
But when her uncle dies and her family has made plans for Thanksgiving that assume she’ll still be single, Laura decides it’s time for a change. It’s time to push herself back into the dating world. As her sister and friends say, “There’s somebody out there for everyone.”
Laura is ready to prove that saying wrong … or right. She is a scientist after all, so why not make her social life a science experiment. With her friends providing helpful and unhelpful “analysis & observation,” she follows each suggestion: Speed Dating, Online Dating, a Social Club, and a Matchmaker.
Will she find her Perfect Match? Or will she decide she was better off single?

I picked this song because of the title and the lyrics. The lyrics ask if there is a soulmate for everyone. In the beginning of the story, Laura’s quest is to prove that wrong.

If you’ve read the book, you know that is not completely true for Laura.

I picked this song because of the lyrics. The lyrics are about having a new perspective on a relationship.
I Wanna Have Your Babies - by Natasha Bedingfield
Laura isn’t baby crazy but she is looking to settle down with Mr. Right if she could find him.
Times Like This - by Susan Egan
This song is perfect because the lyrics are about choosing a dog over romance. Laura becomes convinced as her quest goes on that her dogs are the only men she can depend on.
The More Boys I Meet - by Carrie Underwood
This song is similar to the previous song. I picked this song as an upbeat version of Laura’s feelings about her dogs and romance. As the line goes, “the more boys I meet, the more I love my dog.”
Somebody to Love Me - by Kellie Pickler
Isn’t that all anyone wants? When asked what’s she looking for, Laura simply states “somebody to love me.”
Matchmaker - by Rosalind Harris, Michele Marsh and Neva Small
From Fiddler on the Roof, I added this song to the playlist at the point where Laura meets the matchmaker.
Someone to Watch Over Me - by Chris Botti
I added this song to the playlist to represent the times when she gets sick and is forced to ask for help.
Put Your Head on My Shoulder - by Michael Bublé
Laura has a rough October and this song is also meant to represent when she has to rely on her friends.
Chemicals React - by Aly and A.J.
The temporary replacement in the Chemistry department becomes an important part of Laura’s life.
When I Fall in Love - by Nat King Cole
I added this song to represent how Laura wants to fall in love. It should be forever. The problem is that sometimes you can’t help who you fall in love with.
Fearless - by Taylor Swift
I picked this song to represent the “headfirst fearless” aspect of falling in love. For Laura, it’s just a little bit complicated.
Falling Faster - by The Love Willows
Continuing on the theme from the last song, Laura finds herself falling in love with one person when she thinks she should be in love with someone else.
If It Kills Me - by Jason Mraz
This song is meant to represent Grant’s feelings for Laura.
Breathe - by Taylor Swift featuring Colbie Caillat
This song represents Laura’s feelings as she leaves for Thanksgiving Break. She has just picked Bailey over Grant and feels like she’s losing her best friend.
I Want You - by Kelly Clarkson
If you’ve read the book, you know this is the end when Laura finds herself on the plane sitting next to Grant and his son.
Realize - by Colbie Caillat
This song represents the epilogue with Laura married to Grant. This was their first dance.
